Yoda

In our home we have two dogs.  The elder of the two is Dakota.  She’s a red lab and oh-so-faithful.  She isn’t the smartest pup we’ve ever known, but she just exudes love, and visitors to our home commonly note this.  She’s incredibly sensitive and stays close by when she can sense that any of us are sad or troubled.  She knows when something is going to happen- and when she grows clingy, I make sure to keep my phone near-by.

Our oldest foster son, Buddy, has taken a liking to, no- he’s in LOVE with Dakota.  Only he doesn’t call her Dakota.  His speech impediment combined with the fact that he was thrust into a new world with a million new people with a million new names to learn left him lacking in the “Precision with Pet’s Names” department.  So Dakota is now “Yoda.”  We have yet to correct this change because it’s so freaking cute!!!  And he won’t be young forever, afterall.

Upon returning home from our trip to Texas for Christmas, Buddy walked into our front door and said, “Fwankie is here?!  And Yoda too?!!?”  He was thrilled to be back to a place he was beginning to consider home.  And even more thrilled to find his beloved pups still there!

Just a few days ago I said to Grant that I’m sure Buddy talks about the dogs to his teacher at school and I’m sure they must think we’re Star Wars-obsessed – because I was certain they heard all about Yoda.  We got a good laugh thinking about this.  There are so many worse ways we could be portrayed, really.  The following day I received the picture below in a text from Grant.

This past Sunday Buddy and I had to stay home from church, sick with flu.  He was sad to not be going with Daddy Grant and his brother- and sad to miss seeing his friends.  His solution?  “Momma Fee!  Imma read my Bible book to Yoda!”  And he did.  And she listened.

Oh, thank God for sweet boys like Buddy- and for pups like Yoda who serve as the perfect sidekick.

Hi Vanessa! This is super random, but I saw a comment you wrote on Emily Henderson's post about criticism. You mentioned a blog post you'd read about noncommentors. I'd love to read it, if you remember where you saw it. Email me?

Thanks!
