Home

On Saturday afternoon the four of us left the house to do some Christmas shopping.  Grant and I both grabbed a peice of gum from the console and popped it into our mouth.

"I can have some, peas?" Buddy asked from the backseat.  We'd taken the two last peices so we told him no, it was all gone and maybe another time.  Then, in typical parent/grown up fashion I said, "This gum is more for grownups anyway," knowing that he'd probably not like the strong, odor-killing powers of the spearmint in our gum anyway.

"Well, why?" he asked.

"Because that's just how Jesus made it." Grant said, with a smile- evoking an eye-rolling from me.

And then, without a second's delay, "But, I got Jesus too!"  We both laughed heartily at his argument- surely him having Jesus should earn him some gum!  And in response to our laughter, "But I do!  I got Jesus!"

When I first heard this song I thought it was performed by Mumford and Sons (you hear the similarities too, right?  I'm not so crazy.) and then I learned it was by Phillip Phillips (real name, I didn't make that one up, prom-prom.).  Upon learning this fact I shrugged it off as another release from another reality show winner.  It was on the radio ALL OF THE TIME and I made it my habit to quickly change the station when it came on.  THEN, one morning on the way to work last week, I heard it and listened to the words and I'm pretty sure my face looked like some version of this:

Yeah, I googled "ugly cry" to find these.  Luckily I was in my car still and had time to rehab my mug before going into work.  Anyway, I now love this song and have deemed it the anthem for foster and adoptive parents-or at least mine.  After the paramount messages of how loved they are by our Father in Heaven and the desire Jesus has for them to follow Him, the lyrics in this song are what I want our boys to know without a shred doubt.  Give a listen!
