The Perfect Time, Perfect Place

I have maybe eluded to it here a time or two here on this ole' blog, but Grant and I have had quite the start to 2010.  It's been bumpy, hard, long, challenging, and FULL!  Events, changes, adjustments-you name it!

We exchanged gifts for Valentine's Day, deciding to only get one another gifts that would benefit Haiti.  Grant found a necklace for me and I got him a print.  We actually exchanged early, to offset a particularly bad week that'd been occurring.

This past Thursday, I was visiting with a secretary at one of the schools on my caseload and she told me about a cabin that she and her husband rent at a nearby lake (Cheney Lake).  I made a call to the husband moments after our conversation ended and he said he was in! Friday, after work, we loaded the car with bedding, the dog, some tunes and hit the road (not before stopping for some charcoal, coffee and a couple of steaks-you know, the necessities)!

The weekend proved to be just what we needed.  It wasn't a planned Valentine's Day getaway, but it gave us a chance to stop.  To breathe.  To be quiet and look one another in the eye and converse-and NOT about bills, our future, or anything grownupish like that (I'd like to point out that the fact that I use words like "grownuppish" proves just how far I am from such a state!  Ha!).  We walked the dog, prayed, ate good food, smelled fresh air and just were

Call me crazy, but I think God arranged for the volunteer I was to meet at that school (who works just three blocks from the school and given her ten years working in Wichita and the directions I'd e-mailed to her should have NEVER wound up trapped at an entirely different school behind buses!) to not show up so I could hear about that insanely affordable and perfect retreat.  He is, afterall, the Great Physician and He knew just the kind of medicine my Love and I were in need of!  Here are some pictures of our brief, but lovely adventure!

(I tried posting this last week, but the photo uploader was malfunctioning.  Better late than never!)

Our abode. Isn't it cute?

 Our dinner!
I also made a fruit salad that we brought with us.
  Yum!

The above two pictures are from our walk.
I don't know if we enjoyed the sights and fresh air as much as Dakota did, but it was a beautiful day!  The following are also from our romp around the lake.
